Countdown to Solo: A Star Wars Story – 26 Days – Black Series Han Solo 6″ Figure

After 35 years of 3.75″ Star Wars action figures (with a little break in there), in 2013 Hasbro decided to produce a 6″ line of figures. Scaling up to 6″ would allow them to produce better detail and paint applications on the figures.

While I think the series has been a little “hit-and-miss”, and at $20 per figure they’re a bit more pricey, I’ve picked up all of the Han Solo figures produced in the line so far.

Here’s the first, ANH Han Solo.

Countdown to Solo: A Star Wars Story – 27 days – Han Solo Unleashed Figure

A few years ago, Hasbro issued this line of figures/statutes. They were artist interpretations of the characters in action poses. They were a great addition to the Hasbro line if you wanted something nice to display they was still at a good price. While I didn’t care for all of them, many of them were really nice. This Han Solo is one of them.

Countdown to Solo: A Star Wars Story – 28 days – Vintage Kenner Han Solo (Large Head)

Today’s entry in my “Countdown to Solo” is the vintage Kenner “Large Head” Han Solo action figure.

Originally, the figure was issued with a smaller head sculpt (see yesterday’s post) but early in the run Kenner re-sculpted the head on the figure. I’ve heard different reasons as to why, one being that the original sculpt was broken too easily, the second being that they were trying for a better likeness of Harrison Ford (personally, I think the small-head version looks better).

Countdown to Solo: A Star Wars Story – 29 days – Vintage Kenner Han Solo (Small Head)

OK, so I think I’m going to try something fun here. Every day from now until the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, I’ll post a photo of something from my collection that is Han Solo related.

Today’s entry: The toy that started it all for me – the original Han Solo action figure. OK technically, my first figure was  Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi, and my brother Gary got Han. But after being home for a few minutes, I decided that this guy with the stripes on his pants, cool boots, and cool gun was cooler (we hadn’t seen the movie yet) – so I talked him into trading me. I was right. While Obi-Wan’s a great character (and probably a close second favorite of mine) Han’s by far the cooler of the two.

Unfortunately, that was the “large-head” version of the figure, and got broken somewhere along the way. This is the more-rare “small-head” version, which I traded a neighbor kid for when I was about 12.I picked up a replacement weapon for him a few years ago on ebay. Don’t worry, a photo of a “large head” version will be up tomorrow!
